Though JRA Nutridermaceuticals was formally created in January of 2006, their history really dates back to the times of the Hittites of Asia Minor who used a suspension of soapwort plant ash to cleanse their hands. The discovery of the entity known today as soap has many different etiologies. Some of the earliest accounts of soap making can be found in Sumerian clay tablets dating back to 2000 BC. The Babylonians and Egyptians also practiced soap making in roughly the same time frame.

Nevertheless, two events were key in shaping the modern skin cleansing industry. The first was LeBlanc’s discovery of a process for converting common salt into soda ash, which is a key raw material in the soap-making process. The second key event was the development of synthetic detergents during World War II which were driven by shortages of the natural fats and oils needed to make soap. Also, the formulation of moisturizers designed to maintain the water content of skin between 10% and 30%, was groundbreaking. Water itself is essential to maintain plasticity and the barrier integrity of skin. Skin that is water deficient fissures readily with trauma and is rough to the touch. Finally, the realization that the sun was the major cause of aging skin and the search for modern approaches to photo protection created a large industry devoted to protecting the largest organ of the human body.

JRA Nutridermaceuticals simply took these ideas to their next logical step. The argument is that both sun exposure and aging lead to decrease effectiveness in producing new skin cells and in requiring those cells already there to function longer. This is what results in wrinkles and decreased elasticity of the skin. JRA Nutridermaceuticals emerged from a thought process which turned away from attempting to protect and repair old and damaged skin to understanding the process of skin formation allowing the body to increase the turnover rate of skin by providing the substrates necessary to produce new skin.
